What Does Your Pet Need to Travel to the EU?
For most dogs and cats travelling from Great Britain to the EU, your pet will need:
-
A microchip
-
A valid rabies vaccination
-
At least 21 full days between the rabies vaccination and the AHC appointment, unless it is a valid booster
-
An Animal Health Certificate issued within 10 days of entering the EU
-
Tapeworm treatment for dogs travelling to certain countries, including Ireland, Finland, Malta and Norway
We will guide you through the requirements when you book.

-
Incorrect microchip details

Missing tapeworm treatment where required
-
Confusion over post-Brexit pet passport rules
We check the key details in advance to reduce the risk of delays, refused travel or last-minute stress.

Do you provide Animal Health Certificates near me?
Yes. The Pet Passport Co. provides Animal Health Certificates across multiple locations throughout the UK, with convenient home visits and local collection point appointments.
Enter your postcode when booking to see the options available in your area. Home visits outside our standard service areas may also be available for an additional travel fee.
How much does an Animal Health Certificate cost?
Our standard Animal Health Certificate with a home visit starts from £139.
We also offer repeat AHCs from £119, multi-pet appointments and urgent services. Final pricing may depend on your location, number of pets and how soon you are travelling.
Do you visit my home to issue the Animal Health Certificate?
Yes. Home visits are one of the main benefits of our service.
Your pet’s documents are checked before the appointment, then your Official Veterinarian comes to you to scan your pet’s microchip, check the original paperwork and complete the Animal Health Certificate.
Standard-priced home visits are available within our local service areas, with wider home visits available for an additional travel fee where possible.
Do I still need a pet passport?
Most dogs and cats travelling from Great Britain to the EU will need an Animal Health Certificate rather than a GB-issued pet passport.
If your pet already has an EU pet passport and you are unsure whether it can still be used, contact us before booking and we can advise based on your circumstances.
When should I book my Animal Health Certificate?
Your Animal Health Certificate must be issued within the correct travel window before your pet enters the EU.
We recommend booking as early as possible so we can check your pet’s rabies vaccination, microchip information and travel details before the appointment.
How long after a rabies vaccination can my pet travel?
Following a primary rabies vaccination, your pet must normally wait at least 21 days before travelling to the EU.
If your pet receives an in-date rabies booster, a new waiting period will not usually be required.
We check your vaccination dates before the appointment to help make sure your pet is eligible to travel.
What do I need for an Animal Health Certificate?
Your pet will usually need:
-
A readable microchip
-
A valid rabies vaccination
-
Evidence of the microchip date
-
Rabies vaccination records
-
Your planned travel date
-
The first EU country you will enter
We check these details before your appointment wherever possible.
Can you issue Animal Health Certificates for more than one pet?
Yes. We offer Animal Health Certificates for multiple pets travelling together.
Our multi-pet options can be more cost-effective than arranging separate appointments for each animal.
Can you help with urgent Animal Health Certificates?
Yes. We offer urgent Animal Health Certificate appointments where availability allows.
If you are travelling at short notice, enter your travel date when booking so we can show you the appropriate service.
Can you help with pet travel outside the EU?
Yes. We also provide Companion Animal Export services for selected destinations outside the EU.
Export requirements vary significantly between countries, so contact us with your destination, pet details and intended travel date and we can advise on the service required.
